One of the most common questions we hear is, “Am I too young or too old to learn guitar?” The answer is almost always no.
Our guitar program is designed for students at every stage of life. Young children develop focus, discipline, and creativity through music. Most people think you have to start on an acoustic guitar. Not true! You can start on either. We recommend starting with the style of music you like. If rock music is your thing, then an electric guitar would be your choice. Are you more into Folk or Country music? You should start with an acoustic guitar. If you don’t own a guitar yet, you are welcome to try both in a trial lesson to see which one you like.
For beginner students, we usuallyly start with the fundamentals: hand position, basic chords, simple strumming patterns, and a song you like. You’ll also learn to read tablature and play easy songs that build confidence. As you progress, we can add more advanced techniques like suspended chords, V7 chords, and soloing skills. For more advanced guitar players, we usually address specific areas that need attention or the student has questions about.
Depending on your age, style, and learning goals, your instructor will recommend the right method, books, online tools, or custom materials. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method; at our Scottsdale school of music, we tailor everything to the individual.
Short, daily practice sessions are best. Our instructors will give you a clear plan with goals and exercises to make sure each week builds on the last. Practicing just 15–30 minutes a day can make a huge difference.
